Presenting: Goat & Mouse!

My partner Michael and I are joining forces with our comics and art. I’m very excited to present our joint portfolio/comics site, Goat & Mouse!

goat & mouse

I’m not sure what that means for this site. I admit it’s been pretty quiet over here lately. I’ve been meaning to give it an overhaul for the last few months. I may focus this site on illustration work and miscellaneous blogging, keeping most of the comics stuff at Goat & Mouse. Thoughts?

Your HORSE Cannot Be Calmed

Hey there, kiddies. I don’t know how many people actually subscribe to this blog, but to those who do, I apologize for the lapse in posting. But lots of goodies are in the works.

First of all, an exciting new issue of Brine Weekly has come out! That’s right, in four-to-six weeks, we managed to turn out a new issue. Can we keep up this frenetic pace? Only time will tell. Until then, please enjoy the delightful contents of what I must say is our best issue yet.

So part of why I haven’t been updating at any kind of regular clip is because I’ve been working on some bigger projects — comics and finished illustrations and that sort of thing. And frankly, I would really like to redesign this site from the ground up so it’s more fit to represent my work in the Year of Our Lord 2012. I’m toying with the idea of converting to Drupal, since it seems, frankly, better suited to the kind of site I’ve been trying to have here the whole time, but of course there’s a learning curve on any new software platform.

Plus I’m tinkering away at a separate site for my comics — a portal to all the stuff I’ve worked on that I still like. Maybe not even full of the automated Web 2.0 junk I’ve been using, though I’m kind of accustomed to that convenience.

Anyway, that’s the State of the Union here at Fifteen Minute Intermission. Don’t be too surprised if things change here before the year end. Oh, and don’t forget to vote on Tuesday.

A new issue of Brine! And some other news

After fermenting within the earth for untold eons, a new and delightful issue of Brine Weekly has emerged from the molten tomato-style sauce bubbling up from one of the cracks in the asphalt of our cyber-office’s online parking lot.

There you can see my new comic (“Rocky Mountain Foods”), amongst other amusements and curiosities seven months in the making. It was a long time to go dormant, but we just got distracted and depressed for a while. Sorry. We’re chock full of ideas now, though, so hopefully the turnaround will be a lot faster on the next issue.

In related news, I’m working on some other comics right now, too… I submitted a little one-page comic to one zine and am working on two others, one of which is the longest single-story comic I’ve ever done (seven pages doesn’t sound like much, but it’s intimidating). That’s a big part of why it’s gone so quiet here lately… Most of what I’ve been working on has been larger works in progress.

When I get some more free time sometime in the near future, I’m hoping to redesign this site. It’s been roughly the same since 2008 or so. Yikes.

Brine Weekly

After a devastatingly long wait, everyone's favorite non-weekly e-magazine, in which I play a small part, has expelled a fine new selection of works for you to peruse. Please enjoy the words, sounds, and pictures of our latest issue, Magical Realism.

Sorry for the lack of doodles over the last week--in honor of the fact that I have finally conceded defeat to the social networking behemoth, I've been drawing quick little pictures for some of my Facebook/G+ friends of themselves as My Little Ponies. And last night I went to a concert for the first time in months (the Electric Six! A-W-E-S-O-M-E), and work's been pretty busy, so that's my sea of excuses. I considered keeping the ponies a "social networking friends" thing, but maybe I'll post them here, too, just for the sake of content. I have a few more I want to do, but the ones I've drawn so far are pretty cute.

New Art Coming Soon!

If you've been wondering what became of the Daily Doodle these last few days, know that I've been working on a little project, a birthday present for one of my super-cool friends.  That'll wind up posted over in the art section after he gets it in the mail, so keep an eye out.

Brine Weekly

Perhaps you've been wondering lately what's been keeping me so busy that I do not properly and punctually update this website. It has been a secret, but now you can know: Brine Weekly, a new online multimedia humor magazine, has gone online with its first issue.

Go have a look. I think it's a pretty promising start out the gate. Special thanks to Cathy and Max for getting this project started and getting the rest of us involved. We do accept submissions, if you were wondering (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

Hover Animals and Other Novelties

I have to admit it: I'm hooked on Tumblr. It's so easy to make new themed blogs and form an audience there, it's irresistible.

Here's a list of them, for those of you who'd like to follow them. They all have RSS feeds.

  • Hover Animals: Pictures depicting animals (and sometimes other things) that appear to be hovering.

  • Rats in Hats: Delivers exactly what it promises.

  • The Apple Club: For people who like apples. A group blog.

  • One! Hundred! Polaroids!: A better-structured repository for my Polaroid project. Don't worry, I'll still be posting new ones here, too, and the new site will take a while to run through the fifty-odd old ones.

Movie Reviews?

I know only about three people read this blog regularly, so I would like to ask them: Would you like it if I did some kind of weekly movie round-up, every Sunday night or something, where I post short reviews of the movies I saw that week? Would this be useful or interesting to you?

I go to see a lot of movies. It might be an interesting way to actually provide regularly scheduled content on this blog.

Please answer in the comments--if you're a regular reader, I'm not interested in boring or alienating you by talking a lot about something you don't care about.

Dalton on ComicPress

Tonight, after upgrading all my sites to the latest versions of their respective software, I needed to make a choice about what to do with Dalton. After mucking around on comics websites with both (heavily edited) Movable Type and WordPress's ComicPress theme, I determined that ComicPress is better for managing Dalton. Transitioning everything from MT was kind of a headache, but it's at least I did it before the site got big.

Besides losing all the comments on the old MT-based Dalton site, the RSS feed has also changed. If you were following the comic, please update your RSS reader accordingly.

The comic is not dead. It will continue.

I Have a Tumblr

I finally caved and got a Tumblr for posting all the dumb/awesome stuff I find on the Internet (and in real life (but mostly on the internet)) without feeling obligated to write useful commentary about it.

Subscribe to it and enjoy.

The "Finds" category will still be operational here, but it will only be used when I don't feel like exercising my skills in brevity.
